Beware of Elevators, Rude Management and Staff, Terrible WiFi, and Hot Common Areas
2.0We stayed at Hotel Hugo July 9–17, 2026, and unfortunately our stay was overshadowed by a genuinely frightening safety incident and a series of dismissive responses from staff and management. The elevator nearly caused a serious accident. On Sunday, July 12th, we got in the elevator on the 17th floor with our service dog. Shortly after descending, it shook violently and then went into an uncontrolled, rapid drop. We thought something terrible was about to happen. Our dog, who already had an injured back leg, was so terrified he lost control of his bladder. We reported it to the front desk immediately and were handed two free breakfast vouchers. Ten minutes later, when we asked if the elevator was actually safe, we were told an engineer had "already inspected it" and that what we experienced "must have been in our heads." A full inspection in 10 minutes, on a Sunday morning? Not credible — and the elevator itself backs that up: profanity engraved on the door, floor buttons that don't light up, a "Fire Department Use Only" light stuck on permanently, and a control panel that wouldn't stay closed. This did not look like a well-maintained elevator. Our dog was genuinely hurt. The shaking aggravated his existing leg injury badly enough that we had to take him to an emergency vet that same day. The pain medication he was prescribed then upset his stomach, causing an accident in our room. Instead of any sympathy given what had just happened, the manager reprimanded us for using the white towels to clean it up — even though we did that specifically to spare housekeeping from the mess, and tipped her in cash for the trouble. Other issues: the hallways and Café Felix were almost unbearably hot the entire stay (staff response: "there's nothing we can do, I'm not hot"), the in-room wifi was unusable for work calls, and Café Felix was constantly packed with non-guests camped out over a single coffee for hours, leaving no workspace for actual guests.
AMAZING

10.0I loved everything about the property! From the outside seating as you approach the hotel, to the interior design, how friendly the staff was and how easy check-in was I was even greeted with champagne due to the room I booked🥰 I absolutely loved my stay. The rooftop bar was immaculate! 10/10 the vibes and the drinks were exactly what I needed to enjoy my boyfriends birthday! We already booked our next stay!

Nice spot
10.0Great location with a great rooftop bar. Room was clean and well stocked with toiletries. Great view of the hudson. Price is felt was great. Staff was very pleasant. Drinks from the bar were very good and we received 2 complimentary drinks with our room.
A Gem with Views of the River
10.0Hotel is stylish and well kept. A very subtle nautical / ship theme in the rooms. You are a few blocks from most of the SoHo action, but the short walk is worth it. Roof top restaurant and bar areas are great for a quick bite or happy hour.
