Overpriced, low value hotel
6.0Wouldn't recommend staying here. 1. The cash rate is expensive, and even the points rate is quite high. 2. The location is just ok, you might as well stay closer to mid-town if you're a tourist, I happen to work close by so it was an easy walk 3. The doors of the rooms are thin, you might have a noisy neighbor like me and when they're screaming their heads off on a Friday night you can hear it in your room 4. Other rooms have radiators that make a big buzzing noise 5. There's no elite benefits for breakfast because of the bonvoy carveout they have here 6. There's a $40 destination fee, I think you're suppose to get some credits to go to their very loud bar downstairs, but then its very loud and not exactly somewhere you want to take a date on a quiet night out 7. Front desk service is weak, they couldn't change a room and wasn't all that apologetic about it 8. Other hotels are at this price range and better (e.g., the Ritz Carlton) this hotel is just trying to be something its not. Feels like 7 points is enough would stay away unless you have a very specific reason
Classy hotel in a gorgeous landmark building
8.0Highlights here are the building itself (staying in a true landmark NYC building), the location on Madison Square Park, the hotel’s lobby bar and 2nd floor restaurant, and the minimalist yet luxurious decor of the rooms. Enjoyed the hotels own scented Le Labo soaps and shampoos, and overall appreciated the consistently superb work by the housekeeping team. For me, the only thing missing was a sense of being cared about by the front desk staff - which at the price point here, is to be expected.
Spacious Loft, Minimalist Design, and Exceptional Service in a Prime Location
10.0I had a great stay at the New York EDITION on Madison Avenue. The location is fantastic, right across from Madison Square Park and surrounded by beautiful architecture, including the iconic Flatiron Building, which was very cool to see up close. The hotel itself is modern and stylish, with a great bar and an overall upscale feel. I stayed in a loft style room, which may be why it felt especially spacious, but I really appreciated the minimalist design, it made the space feel clean, open, and relaxing. There was also a table with a bench and chair, which ended up being very useful for getting some work done and even having breakfast. The room also featured beautiful city views, a large soaking tub, and high-quality amenities that smelled amazing, adding an extra touch of luxury to the stay. Service was excellent throughout. When I requested a fridge, it was brought up quickly with no hassle. A special thank you to Charlene from housekeeping, she was incredibly kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of during my stay. Overall, a beautiful hotel in a prime location with outstanding service. I’d definitely stay here again.
Pass Right on By: The New York EDITION Misses the Mark
4.0Luxury? I think, not. It has been several years since my last visit to The New York EDITION, and I was immediately reminded of why I’ve stayed away. Marriott is running a promotion to encourage exploring more brands, so I decided to take a detour from my usual choices and stay for one night. It couldn’t be that bad, right? Upon arrival, the bellman was highly responsive and assisted with my luggage. However, that was where the warm welcome and critical “soft luxury” standards began to decline. At the check-in desk, the welcome was lukewarm and robotic, with no description of the property, amenities, or benefits, and no inquiry about whether I was a returning guest or new to the property. The elevators are extremely creaky and slow. The carpet throughout the building is worn and stained, giving off an unpleasant vibe from the very beginning. The rooms are small, as one might expect, but the design leaves much to be desired. The bathroom feels larger than the bedroom, with small and awkward windows and inefficient use of the minimal space. The room itself is uninspired, worn, and not worth the nightly rate, certainly not deserving of being classified as a luxury property. I emailed in advance, but there was slow or no response, and no attention to detail. Requests were unfulfilled, and worse yet, they lacked the courtesy of acknowledging if there was something they were unable to do, which would allow guests to make a different hotel selection. Overrated with 3-star value at a 5-star premium.
Had the best trip!!
10.0Love the location!!
− Our room was super nice!
Not a five star hotel.
6.0The hotel claims to be a five star hotel, but it is far from it. The room was dusty, tv didn’t work on the first night, the rooms have seen better days as well, suffering from Scratches on the walls, floors and counters. Even the towels seem to be the same used at your average Courtyard. Finally, room service from the night before was left in the room even after they cleaned the room the next day. The attention to detail and service was sorely lacking.
Please note, the hotel entrance is located on East 24th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue.
