Full of character and a good location
8.0Our third or fourth stay over a 4 year period. We still really like the vibe and feel of the hotel. But some of the service was not so great. I felt like a second class citizen at breakfast times. We booked our time and yet were dismissively told where to sit (a table behind check-in/ near the coffee machine/ kitchen door). When I asked if we could sit in a specific area for our next two breakfasts I was told that tables in that area were not able to be reserved. I got the feeling that local people got preferential access to those tables - Despite paying £450/night for our room. However, on our last morning we got a table in the area requested and tables did have reservation signs in them. Not impressed. Water pressure in our top floor room wasn’t great at times.
Hardware great, software disappointing.
8.0The place, location, decoration and family spirit are great. However, the staff was not matching this atmosphere, they really behave like they do not care much, service at dinner was totally impersonal, it felt like staying in an average motel (but you still pay £500 a night). This is too bad because all the rest is well done.
Nice hotel, would've loved it but the staff left a sour taste
5.0The hotel and location were great, the staff that met us and served us on the day of check in were lovely. We had issues with the staff on Sunday morning when checking out and wanting to order breakfast.
− On Sunday morning, a little conscious of time because we had a train to catch, we sat at a table outside of the hotel to order breakfast. We were brought no menus or water (it was v warm) and so I nipped inside to ask for menus, the girl working was very curt when giving them to me. We went outside where the male server who was a little lacklustre was serving the table next to us. No one came to take our order so again I went inside to see if we could order (we were both getting the same so not particularly complex!) The waiter was inputting the previous order onto the till so I decided not to disturb him and went instead to the female server who was finishing emptying coffee beans into the coffee machine, I asked to order and again she was very curt and said we will come out to you, I replied that it was OK, I could just tell her the order (seeing as I had got up and come back inside, what's the point in going back out and waiting) she said in a very passive aggressive, abrasive tone 'I am in the middle of something', which to be honest was ridiculous, she was emptying coffee beans into the grinder.... To add insult, the bag was empty, she'd finished emptying them as I started speaking and surely taking an order would be a priority. At this point we collected our suitcases from outside and left, we didnt want to spend a single extra penny where the staff were downright rude.
A true gem in central London for solo travelers
9.0I loved the coziness and comprehensiveness of services and amenities, never mind the central location. The morning staff who did breakfast service were especially delightful, and the bed, bathroom toiletries, and shower were up to my high standards. Unlike most hotels in London, it was also really, truly quiet at night. And the cocktail bar in the basement is such a lovely haven. Have the bar manager make you his favorite drink!
A fabulous time
10.0We had a wonderful experience. The room was lovely, clean, well appointed and air conditioned (a big plus as we arrived during a heat wave). The staff was great! We can’t say enough good things about it! Stay here!!!
Great place to stay for the Chelsea Flower show.
8.0We did have a lovely stay whilst we were in London to visit the Chelsea Flower Show. Our room was a good size & the beds were so very comfy. The fridge wasn’t working sadly - We did report it on the 2nd day & were advised that the managers would be told. It did mean our (bought elsewhere) picnic items didnt stay cold nor the milk in our fridge. We were also surprised that the small bottle of milk wasn’t replenished daily. Breakfast was good - although my husband’s eggs were cold (as if they’d come out of the fridge?). These issues aside it was a lovely stay.
