A masterclass in blaming the guest for the hotel’s own mistakes

The room itself was fine (except that the water pressure was so weak that even rinsing a toothbrush took a while). But the front desk's core philosophy — the guest is always wrong, and basic service is a personal favour — is what you'll remember.

− The room's description explicitly stated that both the twin and the double options include a private bathroom with a bath and a shower. We were given a room with a shower only. Mistakes happen – what matters is how the front desk handles them. Here is how: The receptionist offered three different theories in a row. First: she said since we ticked "twin beds" on Booking, we could only have a shower. Stated so confidently that we went off to re-read the description (only to find we were right), and by the time we came back to make our case, a queue had formed at reception, moving painfully slow, though only one couple was being checked in. After we showed her the exact quote – "bathroom with a bath, a shower" – she switched to theory two: "a bath" doesn't mean a bathtub, it means the bathroom itself. So the hotel promises a bathroom with a bathroom. She delivered this as a long, confident lecture; when we tried to object, she got angry and demanded not to be interrupted – as if more talking could make it make sense. And then she switches to theory three: all rooms with bathtubs are "sold out". At 4:30 pm. To guests who arrived right after check-in opened. She leaves to consult her supervisor, keeps us waiting again – and a "sold out" room with a bath is suddenly found. But instead of an apology we get: the manager allowed it "even though we were wrong" – plus a reprimand, in a schoolteacher's tone, that next time we should request a bathtub in advance. Request an amenity that is already in the room description. The whole performance was about making the hotel's error our fault, and it took so long that we missed what we had come to the city to do. Check-out matched the style: the car park needs your room key to exit.

Sechs Nächte im Seventy Barcelona reichen aus, um die erste Begeisterung über eine schöne Lobby hinter sich zu lassen und festzustellen, wie sich ein Hotel im Alltag schlägt. Unser Fazit fällt ziemlich positiv aus, mit ein paar kleinen Fragezeichen. Schon der Empfang macht Spaß. Die Lobby ist großzügig, charmant eingerichtet und duftet ausgesprochen angenehm. Das klingt nebensächlich, trägt aber erstaunlich viel dazu bei, dass man nach einem langen Tag gerne ins Hotel zurückkommt. Der Check in verlief freundlich und völlig reibungslos. Die Koffer darf man anschließend selbst aufs Zimmer befördern. Vielleicht gehört das bei vier Sternen zur sportlichen Betätigung des Gastes. Unser Zimmer lag im dritten Stock, ganz am Ende des Flures mit Blick zum begrünten Innenhof. Das erwies sich als Glücksgriff. Großzügig geschnitten, geschmackvoll eingerichtet, sehr gute Betten, eine ordentliche Dusche und erfreulich viele Ablagemöglichkeiten. Dazu Schreibtisch, Bügelbrett und eine bemerkenswert umfangreiche Minibar. Eine dazugehörige Preisliste konnten wir allerdings nicht entdecken. Vor allem war das Zimmer wunderbar ruhig. Von einer Millionenstadt bekam man nachts akustisch erstaunlich wenig mit. Kleine Kuriositäten gab es dennoch. Manche Lichtschalter benötigten mehrere Anläufe, bevor sie sich zur Mitarbeit entschlossen. Eine besondere Konstruktion ist der Kosmetikspiegel im Bad. Klein, rechts in der Ecke montiert, nicht höhenverstellbar und bemerkenswert niedrig angebracht. Für eine drahtige Zwölfjährige möglicherweise ergonomisch perfekt. Wer mit zwei Metern Körpergröße morgens versucht, sich darin zu rasieren, absolviert dagegen gleich die erste Gymnastikeinheit des Tages. Auch die Kopfkissen waren für unseren Geschmack deutlich zu hoch. Geduld benötigt man gelegentlich am Fahrstuhl. Zwei Minuten sind keine Ewigkeit, können aber entstehen, wenn gerade halb Barcelona dieselbe Idee hat. Die Aufzüge waren zu bestimmten Zeiten schlicht gut beschäftigt.

La decoración del hall, restaurante y patio exterior es preciosa. Vanessa de recepción un 10, nos hizo un recibimiento espectacular. El personal que nos atendió en la cena también un 10, muy amables. La piscina exterior del ático preciosa, el spa también (hay gente que se queja porque no te dejan estar más de 30 minutos pero este tipo de servicios en otros hoteles suele ser de pago así que nos parece correcto).

− El tamaño de la habitación es justo, el baño con bañera ya nadie lo utiliza, es peligroso, la puerta del baño no cierra bien. Las ventanas no se abren y es imposible ventilar. La cama algo dura así como las almohadas: sinceramente, en un hotel de 4 estrellas superior esperas algo más. La limpieza de la habitación es mejorable: mucho polvo en las persianas. El día que nos íbamos pregunté la hora del check out y me dijeron en recepción que a las 11 y pregunté si podía alargarlo a las 12 y me confirmaron que sí, que lo dejarían anotado. Les insistí que si les suponía un problema no pasaba nada, me iría antes pero me dijeron que no, que no pasaba nada, que hasta las 12 sin problema. A las 11 y 15 me llaman desde recepción diciéndome que el check out era a las 11, que me estaba retrasando. Me sorprendí un poco y les recordé que me lo habían retrasado hasta las 12 pero me dijeron que no estaba anotado y que me tenía que ir y colgaron sin más. Creo que no son las formas correctas. El desayuno no está mal pero tampoco de 10, los huevos revueltos y el bacon estaban fríos a las 8 de la mañana, el personal se notaba estresado y de mal genio, quejándose en voz alta del calor que hacía, parecía que les molestábamos, no era un ambiente agradable a excepción de la persona que estaba en la recepción de los desayunos, muy amable. En definitiva, cosas buenas y cosas regulares, incluso mal. Envoltorio precioso pero lo básico falla.

Everything about the hotel is amazing. The hotel itself is so beautiful. All areas are so aesthetically pleasing to the eye and have such a good feel about them. I loved the rooftop lounge/pool area. We ate dinner at the restaurant one night out on the patio which was such a nice vibe. The staff and food were outstanding. The rooms were very comfortable. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. It's one of my favourite hotels I've stayed at!
