'Request to Book' system and host cancelled within hours of check in

− I booked this apartment well in advance through Booking.com. Initially, I received a booking confirmation, but then it was followed by an email to say that my booking was not guaranteed until the accommodation confirmed it. Ten days before the scheduled check-in, I contacted the property directly via the WhatsApp number provided to check whether my booking had been accepted. At the time, I didn't receive a response. However, two days later, I received an email from the host CUR8 Residences stating: *"Congrats on your booking. We're happy to confirm your booking for this property."* Naturally, I believed everything was confirmed. Then two days before check-in, I finally received a WhatsApp reply from the number apologising for the delay because they had been away. They told me the property was "request to book only", that they weren't sure how I had managed to book it, and that they could try to find me somewhere else. I immediately replied, pointing out that I had already received a confirmation email stating that my booking had been confirmed, and asked whether that was no longer the case. I received no response. Then, on the morning of check-in, while my boss was already on a long-haul flight to London, the booking was cancelled, citing a maintenance issue. Whether there genuinely was a maintenance issue or not (doubtful with the info recieved on WhatsApp), the communication was completely unacceptable. We were left to find alternative accommodation in the city during a busy summer weekend, which was both stressful and unnecessarily difficult. I would be very cautious about booking this property. I also hadn't appreciated that Booking.com's request-to-book system can leave you in this position, even after receiving what appears to be a booking confirmation. Overall, a very disappointing experience, and I certainly wouldn't risk booking this property or via this system again.

Excellent location, 2-5 mins to underground metro. Just by the side of Europe’s largest Mall.

It was close to the mall, and the property was nice.

− 1. I didn't like the pre-entry service 2. There is no flexibility despite the delay in accessing the property. 3. Information on the property was not fully disseminated to afford interested persons determine whether or not is interested.
