Sometimes in a bit sceptical about such good reviews but this was spot on, it was a 10/10 stay for sure.
10.0The Ryokan itself was very clean, and full of character with comfort! We had a great sleep, and were made to feel so welcome with Tome and her family. The breakfast was delicious, and the opportunity to chat in the bar and learn more about the local area and Japan were a real trip highlight.

10.0Amazing stay here! We enjoyed the lovely home cooked Japanese breakfast every morning and exploring the neighborhood with their bikes. Tome always had the best recommendations for us and her speakeasy in the back was such a delight! Tome and her husband are some of the nicest hosts we've ever met!

10.0Here I am back at Mugen after six years, and I can confirm the exceptional kindness of Tome and her husband. Ryokan Mugen preserves the beauty of a traditional *machiya* while adding a touch of sophisticated design. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and clean, and the breakfast is plentiful and of excellent quality. But what always amazes me most about Mugen is the hospitality and the thoughtful little touches: hot water ready in the room for evening tea, a small treat, and a refined selection of locally produced gin and whisky. Everything consistently high-quality and carefully curated. In the surrounding area, you’ll find small restaurants, artisan workshops, and cafés run by young artists. Mugen will always be my best place in Kyoto.
Beautiful and unique experience in Kyoto
10.0The entire experience was phenomenal. Tome is the owner and hostess. She made our stay feel very special and authentic in our first trip to Japan. Every day we had a homemade traditional breakfast and tips on beautiful places to visit, including some that we would have never known if it wasn’t for her help as a local.

10.0We had a wonderful and memorable stay at Ryokan Mugen. The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The ryokan is beautifully maintained, clean and peaceful, giving us an authentic Kyoto experience. The room was comfortable and spacious, and we especially enjoyed the traditional Japanese atmosphere. The location was convenient and made it easy to explore Kyoto. We felt very welcomed and would happily stay here again.
